swap not auto mounted in ubuntu or linux

April 21, 2009

go to /etc/fstab

look for swap part it would be something like

UUID=e5785762-91be-4c98-8492-7398671c923c none swap defaults 0 0

the problem may be with the UUID

get the UUID of ur swap using

sudo vol_id -u <partition>  // <partition> is the partition of ur swap like /dev/hda5

copy the UUID and paste in the UUID part in /etc/fstab for swap and save it ( u may required to be a super user to do tht) and voila the swap ll auto mount

Inside Google Fortune

February 8, 2009

Everyday i wait to see the day’s fortune from google and let me tell you that  i don’t believe in astrology. I have seen people posting questions on how the google’s fortune works and for them i think i have an answer.

A few days back i had set my status message in gmail’s chat as ““i ‘ll make him an offer he can’t refuse” – Godfather“. And guess what, the next day my fortune was “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind” which i was (and am) glad to see and immediately changed my status msg to previous one which is “look at everything as if you are looking at it for the first time or last time your life on earth will be wonderful”.

conclusion Google may be reading our status messages and posts (scraps) to generate fortune rather using some gibberish complicated random algorithm.

Feel that to be a coincidence. Nope, don’t think so.

the Next day i.e. after resetting my status to old one i got the fortune as ”
The guy who reads your fortune lost his psychic powers (and his job). We hope you are feeling lucky.” which i feel is perhaps because  their bot (fortune teller), read my chat with my friend telling him about this.

P.S – I am happy that google decides our fortune by gauging our actions (chats, status messsages, scraps …) than employing  someone with crystal ball 😀

high cpu usage on ubuntu kacpi problem solution

October 20, 2008

hi fellow mortals

i think the 99% CPU usage in ubuntu due to kacpi (– it can’t be solvd using changing the menu.lst file as only one core in DUAL core appers then–) cant be solvd but can be avoided by

COLD BOOTING ur PC / LAPTOP

ie if u hav dual boot with XP dont log in to ubuntu by restart

turn off completly  (includin UPS,no power suplly :)) and then start again

also remember that  kacpi kicks in after stand by or restart so  avoid that

this solution works fine for me  🙂

hope this prob no more hold us from using ubuntu
